• Managing Director of Dorbyl (Heavy Engineering) from 1992 to 1994.
• Extraordinary Professor of the University of Pretoria from 1974 to 2001 and of the University of Stellenbosch from 2002 to date.
• Became Managing Director of KWV in 1994.
• Serves on the Advisory Boards of Engineering Management at the University of Pretoria, Industrial Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch and the University of Stellenbosch Business School and is a Member of the Board of the University of Pretoria.
• Chairman of the board of KWV International, Managing Director of the Board of KWV Investments, Director of the Board of Remgro/KWV Investments, Past President and Trustee of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut and a Trustee of BSA.
• Chairman of the board of NMI.
• Chairman of THRIP (DTI programme)
