  • Was employed as engineer by the General Electric Co., Coventry, England and the SA Post Office.
  • Held academic positions at the Universi¬ties of Stellen¬bosch, Illinois, USA, and Stanford, California.
  • Joined the University of Pretoria in 1981 and became Dean of Engineering in 1989.
  • Chairman of the board of the Laboratory for Advanced Engineering until the end of 1999.
  • Appointed Executive Director: Projects at the University of Pretoria in 2000.
  • Appointed Vice Principal, University of Pretoria 2001.
  • Member of the editorial board of Microwave and Optical Technology Letters (Wiley), reviewer for the Electronics Letters (UK) , IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques and IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation.
  • Past member of the Council of the Engineering Council of South Africa, and past Chairman of the Council of the Technikon Northern Transvaal. Member of the Council of the University of Pretoria.
  • Was Vice-chairman of the Academy of Engineers of South Africa and elec¬ted Founder Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa, of which he is currently a member of Council and past Vice-President.
  • The Havenga-prize for Enginee¬ring was awarded to him in 1995, and the IEEE Third Millennium Medal in 2000.
