• Worked for Anglo American Corporation from 1985 – 1987 as Senior Research Metallurgist, Senior Plant Metallurgist and Plant Production Superintendent.
• Senior Engineer for Somchem from 1988 –1990.
• oined staff of Department of Process Engineering of University of Stellenbosch in 1990 as Senior Lecturer, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994, and became Professor in 1995.
• Chairman of the Department from 1995 – 2001 and appointed Deputy Dean of the Engineering Faculty in 2001.
• Researcher of the Year of the Faculty of Engineering in 1997 and Lecturer of the Year in 1999 and received the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in research in 2002.
• Chairman of the Board of Directors of the consulting company Prolor Techpros (Pty) Ltd and director of two other consulting companies
• Author of more than 60 international journal papers and has delivered more than 140 papers at national and international conferences and was the study leader or co study leader of 48 masters students and 18 PhD students.
