LEUSCHNER, Friedrich Wilhelm (Wilhelm),

- Obtained one of the first bursaries for full-time study in electrical engineering from the City Council of Pretoria and joined the Municipality in 1971 as a graduate engineer.
- Worked for GH Marais and Partners consulting engineers from 1973 to 1974 as a design engineer dealing with the design of the upgrading of the electrical reticulation of existing towns.
- Joined Errol Musk and Associates in 1974 as a design engineer and was appointed an Associate of the company in 1975. Resigned in 1976 to become a temporary lecturer and consulting engineer.
- Appointed as lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in June 1976 and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1984.
- Joined the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 1985 to develop the Photonics Group in the Department, was promoted to associate professor in 1987 and to professor in 1990.
- Appointed Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1994 and became part-time Chair of the School of Engineering in January 2002. Served on the panels for awarding the first licenses for cellular telephony in the RSA and for establishing the National Laser Centre and serves on both the Professional Advisory Committee and the Accreditation Panel of ECSA.
- Presented numerous papers at national and international symposia and conferences, author of several articles and attended numerous international conferences and workshops.
