• Joined the SAR & H in 1959 and served the organisation for thirty seven years inter alia as System Manager, Director (Passenger Services) in the General Manager’s Office and Assistant General Manager (Passenger Services and Road Transport). Appointed Deputy General Manager (Railways) in 1988 and then Chief Executive (Spoornet) when SATS became Transnet Ltd.
• Became Deputy Managing Director of Transnet Ltd in 1992 until retirement in 1996.
• Served on the Board of Eskom for eight years.
• President of ITSA, the Institute of Transport in Southern Africa from 1988 to 1993, and CITSA when it merged with the Chartered Institute of Transport from 1993 to 1996.
• Currently does consulting and public speaking in the field of transport and management with special interest in information and other technologies and their effects on business in the local and global community.
