Retired Executive Chairman of Mozal.
  • Worked a total of 20 years for the South African Atomic Energy Commission.
  • Was Chairman and Managing Director of Alusaf Limited from 1982 to 1998 with full executive responsibility for one of the largest aluminium production complexes in the world situated in Richards Bay, South Africa. As Project Director promoted and built the Hillside smelter which is currently the world’s most modern reference smelter.
  • Was Executive Chairman of Mozal, a company responsible for building a new $1,3b aluminium smelter in Mocambique. Honorary member of Engineer’s Association of South Africa, Past President and Council Member of the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa and Past Director and Vice–President of the International Primary Aluminium Institute.
  • Received the Institute of Personnel Management Award in 1989, Zululand Business Person of the Year Award in 1992, National Communicator of the Year Award in 1993, Society for Professional Engineers’ Engineer of the Year Award in 1997, the Standard Bank Technology top 100 Award in 1996 and the Insignia of Knight of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour in 1998.
