- Design Engineer for Geustyn Forsyth & Joubert Inc from 1975 – 1979. From 1979 – 1995 successively Junior Lecturer, Researcher and Professor at the University of Pretoria.
- Founding Member of Jordaan & Joubert and served the company from 1983-1992. Managing Director of African Consulting Engineers from 1992 – 1997. Director of Arcus Gibb from 1998 –2001.
- Founding Member of Tech IQ in 2001.
- Director of VIAED Centre of Excellence in Transportation sponsored by the National Department of Transport
- Member of the Negotiating Committee for the Transformation of Pretoria (1992 –1994) and member of the Greater Pretoria Transitional Metropolitan Council. Project leader of several projects to develop National Guidelines and Standards, including Setting of Speed Limits, the South African Road Traffic Signs Manual and Road Access Management.
- Currently involved in the planning of the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link between Pretoria, Johannesburg and the Johannesburg International Airport. Chairperson of the Transportation division and Member of the Executive Committee of the SAICE Council.
- Member of the Institution of Transportation Engineers.
- Author of more than 50 local and international papers and articles as well as co-author of textbooks on Traffic Flow Theory and Applied Statistics for Civil Engineers.
