• Post-doctoral Fellow, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor in the Division of Engineering and Applied Physics, Harvard University between 1968 and 1972. Also 6 months at University of California, Berkeley as Visiting Research Associate.
• Appointed Professor in the Field of Mathematics in the Department of Computational and Applied Mathematics, University of the Witwatersrand in 1972. Became Honorary Professor in 1975-.
• Director, Vice-President and Deputy President of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) from 1975 to 1985.
• Joined Allied Electronics Corporation Limited (“Altron”) in March 1985 as Group Executive Director for Science & Technology, Main Board Director and Member of the Group Chairman’s Strategy and Policy Committee. Established a pre-eminent reputation as a leading authority on techno-business strategy, policy and management.
• Received the Third Millennium Medal for outstanding contributions from the international Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Recognized by the Business Day Technology Top 100 Award in 1999 for establishing a culture of technical excellence throughout the Allied Electronics Corporation Limited.
• Past IEE Ambassador for SA, Past President SAIEE, Past Chairman SA Math Society.
