  • Junior Process Engineer with Unilever from 1994 to 1996.
  • Senior Process Engineer with Dow AgroSciences from 1996 to 1998.
  • Part-time Mathematical Optimization Module Demonstrator at UMIST from 2000 to 2001.
  • Technology Leader: Optimization and Integration with Sasol Technology from 2002 to 2003.
  • Appointed as Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 2004 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2009.
  • Developed a unified heat and mass integration framework for the South African Industry the adoption of which by African Explosives Limited lead to 30 Per cent reduction in effluent.
  • Developed a wastewater minimisation technique in batch operation which lead to a 20 % reduction in effluent and almost R3 million savings through product recovery by Johnson & Johnson (Pty) Ltd.
  • Won First Prize in the SAIChE/Chemical Technology Competition in 2004, Second Prize in the Zdenek Burainec Memorial Award in Italy in 2005, received the Award for Outstanding Young Researcher, School of Engineering, University of Pretoria in 2008, the NSTF Award for Distinguished Young Black Researcher in the last 5 – 10 years in 2006, the NRF President’s Award (P rating) in 2007, the Leading Minds (1908 – 2008) Centenary Award of the University of Pretoria in 2008 and the S2A3 British Association Medal in 2008.
