• Instructor in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, from 1969 to 1972 and Lecturer in the same department from 1972 to 1973.
• Appointed Senior Lecturer in Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Natal in 1974, Professor in 1975 and was later promoted to Head of Department and Dean.
• Professor and Morris Gillman Chair in Manufacturing at University of Johannesburg since 1993.
• Held appointments as Visiting Professor at 13 Universities in the USA.
• Organizer of international conferences and member of scientific committees of numerous international conferences around the world.
• Member of several professional Institutions, Fellow of the International Academy of Production Research (CIRP) and Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)
• Involved in the development of international collaborative research in manufacturing with colleagues in Japan, Sweden, Hungary and the USA.
• Serves on editorial boards and as reviewer of many International Journals in Manufacturing and supervised over 60 Master and PhD students.
• Academic career spans over 35 years with main research interests and numerous publications in the wide area of Manufacturing, with emphasis on manufacturing processes and systems, robotics, intelligent manufacturing and design of emerging manufacturing systems.
