  • Between 1995 and 1997 consecutively Engineer-in-training and Engineer at Mintek.
  • Appointed Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria in 1997 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2003, Professor in 2008 and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering in 2008.
  • Registered International Welding Engineer with the International Institute of Welding, Member of the American Welding Society and Member of the Forensic Engineering Association of South Africa.
  • Member of the ECSA Professional Advisory Council for Metallurgical Engineering and C1-rated researcher with the National Research Foundation (NRF).
  • Fellow of the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW), Chairperson of the Governing Board of SAIW Certification and Chairperson of the Examination Panel for Welding Engineers and Technologists.
  • Member of the Technology Management Board and Vice-Chairperson of Commission IX of the International Institute of Welding.
  • Active consultant in the SA metallurgical, manufacturing and aircraft industries.
  • Awarded Gold and Silver Medals by the SAIMM in 1997 for papers published in the SAIMM journal, received the Harvey-Shacklock Gold Medal Award from the SA Institute of Welding in 2007, was a member of the team named overall winner of the 2008 SASSDA Stainless Steel Awards and received the Best Paper award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in 2008.
