• Worked in various capacities for Transnet and its predecessors from 1963 to 2000.
• Was General Manager in Spoornet from 1989 to 2000.
• Programme Manager at University of Pretoria’s Chair in Railway Engineering since 2001.
• Railway Engineering Consultant since 2001.
• Developed original lecture material for under-graduate education in railway engineering,
• Developed advanced course in wheel/rail interaction and presented at various international venues.
• Provided heavy haul railway technology leadership in Spoornet.
• Member of the Railroad Association’s Committee for Railway Engineering (CRE) since 1989
• Chairman of the CRE from 1994 to 2000.
• Member of the Board of Directors of the International Heavy Haul Association (IHHA) from 1993 - 2000
• Elected Chairman of the IHHA for 1997 – 1999.
• Mediated successfully in a number of contractual disputes and also finalized a mega dispute on the Hex River Rail tunnel as leader of a two-man Transnet team.
• Received SAICE Best Paper awards.
• Elected Chairman of International Heavy Haul Association and has received SAICE Best Paper awards.
