  • Started career in 1984 at Mintek where he was involved in applied minerals research. Was later appointed Senior Research Officer and was responsible for the development of the column flotation research facilities (including modelling tools) at Mintek.
  • Appointed by De Beers (DRL) in 1992 as Senior Researcher and Project Manager for simulation.
  • Moved to Debex Desalination/Envig/Weir, a company undertaking turn-key design and construction of desalination and effluent treatment plants, in1994 and consecutively served as Senior Project Engineer, Engineering Manager and Technical Director.
  • As such intimately involved with the design and construction of at least 10 large-scale Reverse Osmosis plants for treatment of industrial effluent (Sasol, Eskom, Columbus Stainless, Saldanha Steel), 3 large-scale IX demineralisation plants Sasol, Belle Vue, Maritius), 2 large-scale UV plants for disinfection of effluent (Daspoort, Pretoria and Sasol), 2 large-scale effluent and DAF systems for oil removal from casthouse cooling water by dissolved air flotation (Bayside and Hillside Aluminium) and several smaller water-treatment systems related to ozonation, demineralisation and effluent treatment.
  • Appointed Professor at University of Stellenbosch in 2004 and was instrumental in the establishment of the Separation Technology research group which focuses on super-critical extraction and distillation.
  • Author and co-author of several publications and many research reports
