CLAYTON, Arthur J,

- Started career with an oil company in Cape Town, later joined a consulting engineering firm and then a civil construction company before joining the Namibian Roads Department in Windhoek in 1963.
- Municipal engineering career commenced with the Windhoek Municipality in 1965. Appointed City Engineer in Windhoek in 1967, City Engineer of Port Elizabeth in 1982 and City Engineer of Cape Town in 1989. Appointed Executive Director of Water and Waste with the Cape Metropolitan Council in 1997.
- Presently a consultant in the public sector division of a large international firm.
- Extensive experience in water and wastewater treatment, environmental matters, transport, housing and urban planning.
- Member of the team that was awarded the gold medal of the Associated Scientific and Technical Societies in recognition of the outstanding technical achievement in the development of the Windhoek Water Reclamation Scheme in 1970.
- Recipient of the 1995 Urban Engineering Award from the South African Institution of Civil Engineers for outstanding achievement in the field of urban engineering over an extended period of time.
- Author of several published technical papers delivered at both national and international conferences.
