  • Started career in 1978 as engineer-in-training with Kentron-South and was promoted to Engineer and Group Head: Double-base Propellants in 1979 and to Senior Engineer and Section Head of same department and project manager in 1982.
  • Appointed as Senior Lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch in 1983 and was successively promoted to Associate Professor, Professor and Chairman of the Department of Process Engineering.
  • Appointed Deputy Dean (Teaching) in the Faculty of Engineering in 2006.
  • Made important contribution to the development of local capabilities in the internal ballistic design of solid rocket motors and the performance prediction of solid rocket motors and still serves as consultant in the field of internal ballistics.
  • Contributed to the development of processes and scale-up procedures for the paint industry which lead to significant savings and improved profitability in the industry.
  • Developed testing procedures for plastic pipes to predict their performance and time to failure under different loads which resulted in polypropylene piping being acceptable for certain applications in domestic buildings.
  • Received the Rector’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Stellenbosch, the Lecturer of the Year Award from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Stellenbosch, and was a finalist in the THRIP Achievers Award
