  • Started career as Assistant Engineer with South African Railways and Harbour in 1974.
  • Assistant Town Engineer for Potchefstroom Municipality from 1975 to 1982 and Deputy Town Engineer for Richards Bay Municipality from 1982 to 1988.
  • Regional Manager of the SA Housing Trust from 1988 to 1990.
  • Appointed Executive Director of SA Institution of Civil Engineering in 1991.
  • Founder of the Africa Engineers Forum 1995, Chairman of the EXCO of the Science, Engineering, Technical and associated Groups, SETAG and EXCO member of the National Science and Technology Forum.
  • Initiator of several engineering careers guidance programmes and material, e.g. the Water competition for secondary school learners.
  • Member of the Capacity Building Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.
  • Current Secretary and convenor of the Africa Engineers Forum.
  • Received the SAICE President’s Award for meritorious service in 1995
  • Was one of six finalists in the SA Boss of the year competition in 2005.
  • Author and editor of the SAICE Foundations for the future publication for the SAICE Centenary 2003.
  • Authored numerous articles, viewpoints for the SAICE Magazine
  • Presented numerous papers at conferences and workshops
  • Regular spokesman for SAICE on radio, TV and contributor for other media
