• Worked for LEW from 1977 to 1991 as Engineer, Chief Engineer and eventually as Divisional Manager and Assistant General Manager. Experience in design, project management, systems engineering, acquisition/procurement, and line management.
• Appointed professor and incumbent of the Chair for Engineering Management in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 1992. Developed postgraduate programmes in Engineering Management, Technology Management, and Project Management, as well continuing management education programmes for engineers.
• Established the Department of Engineering and Technology Management in 1994 at the University of Pretoria and was appointed as first head.
• Director of the Graduate School of Management at the University of Pretoria from 2000 to 2004.
• Founding Managing Director of CE at UP (Pty) Ltd from 2000 to 2002, a private company owned by the University of Pretoria.
• Appointed as Executive Director on the executive of the University of Pretoria in July 2002. Portfolio includes facilities management, information technology and purchasing.
• Founding Chairman (1999) of the South African Chapter of the Engineering Management Society of the IEEE.
• Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).
• Founding President (2003) of the international Engineering and Technology Management Education and Research Council (ETMERC).
• Fellow of the South African Academy of Engineering (2005).
• Director of PURCO since 2004
